USSR Stamps

As with all their Expo offerings, the Soviet representatives made sure that their stamps would stand out. While the majority of nations presented one or two Expo-specific stamps, the U.S.S.R brought six. Five of these depicted aspects of the natural environment, in keeping with the fair's theme: a bird in flight, a fish swimming, a purple crystal, a flower on a bed of leaves, and a young fawn. The sixth and most valuable stamp (worth 50 kopecks, or half a ruble) depicted a young child sitting on a bed of leaves and reaching toward a stylized sun.

This envelope shows the American first day cover specific to the USSR Pavilion, which includes a special postmark.

These envelopes show the Soviet first day covers, which also had their own special Expo ‘74 postmark.
