Floral Appliqué Quilt

The Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture describes this quilt as follows: “Twelve blocks appliquéd with floral designs in various colors make up this quilt. The blocks each measure 17 1/2" and are separated by green sashing. The border is scalloped and edged in green fabric. It is hand quilted at six to nine stitches to the inch. The backing is off white.” (Image from the NWMAC here.)

Appliqué is a method of creating quilt designs by sewing fabric pieces on top of a background fabric, rather than by sewing pieces together as in patchwork.

The NWMAC’s record for this quilt notes: Quilted: "3 NOV 1974 SPOKANE WN. EXPO '74 FOLKLIFE.”
