Information Kit (Brown Folder)

This information kit was acquired on eBay. Contents include:

  • Four large black and white photographs with captions on slips of paper taped to the back.

    • A photo of a scale model of the U.S. pavilion.

    • A photo of the falls, with the Washington Water Power building in the background.

    • An aerial photo of downtown Spokane with a white line indicating the area that will become the fairgrounds. This photo is dated 10/73.

    • A photo of “two of the nation’s reigning beauties” sitting on the steps in front of the Washington State Pavilion, which is under construction. The women in the photo are Miss World-USA (Lexie Brockway of Richland) and Miss Washington (Leslie Anne Mays of Mercer Island).

  • A brochure from the Convention and Visitors Bureau of the Spokane Chamber of Commerce titled “The Facts - And The Story Behind Them.” Printed on lilac paper in magenta ink, this brochure details everything from Spokane’s form of government to its museums, lakes, and hospitals. It was printed no earlier than April 19, 1973, as it includes an estimate of year-to-date postal receipts from that date ($2,798,249.56).

  • An Expo ‘74 brochure on white glossy paper. This was probably printed sometime in early 1974, as it provides extensive detail about planned fair participants and even lists some anticipated performers. However, a few elements mentioned in this brochure did not come to fruition. It mentions the Mexican Pavilion, which fell through shortly before the fair opened. It also indicates that fair attendees will be able to participate in “River Voyage Adventures” on “a comfortable World’s Fair riverboat.” This brochure is the only place that I have seen the term “brightbubble gondolas” used. A ticket pre-order form was tucked inside.

  • A “Spokane in Sunny Eastern Washington” brochure.
